Ecosa Process Technologies, LLC is proud of its Technology Partnership with AECOM Technical Services. We are engaged in a joint effort to mitigate, remediate, and prevent Harmful Algae Blooms (HABS).  This effort encompasses many aspects of, and benefits of Ecosa’s expertise in liquid/solid separation from effective capture to dewatering and valorization of recovered algae biomass.

Surface Water Treatment for HABS provides many benefits:

Nutrient Capture and Export

Harmful algal blooms (HABs) pose a significant threat to the health of our aquatic ecosystems. Excessive growths of algae can disrupt the ecological balance, deplete oxygen levels, produce harmful toxins, and negatively impact fisheries and recreation. Reducing or eliminating HABs is achieved by exporting the nitrogen and phosphorus that fuel algae growth.

Decarbonization through Energy Recovery

Anaerobic Digestion of Algae Biomass for biogas production and Conversion of the carbon component of recovered algae biomass into biocrude oil through the process of Hydrothermal Liquefaction (HTL) both capture carbon and generate green energy. Biocrude oil can be refined into specialty fuels or used directly in certain diesel engines.

Product Recovery

Algae biomass is used in industry by emerging companies  engaged in the production of bioplastics and other algae-based products.  Bioplastics can be formulated to be durable or readily biodegradable.

Beneficial Use

Because of its nutrient content, recovered algae biomass can serve as a soil amendment or fertilizer thus minimizing introduction of additional nitrogen and phosphorus to a watershed.

Water Reuse

Green water in, clear water out…

Because It's Water!

Liquid/Solid Separation and the further processing of recovered solids is applicable across many water intensive industries and, as water and other resources become more scarce, every suspended particle discharged will increasingly become lost value.
